Previously, UIC Human Resources (UIC HR) advised certain employees that they would be receiving salary increases or would become eligible for overtime in accordance with the impending changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Those changes were to become effective on December 1, 2016.
A federal court issued an injunction November 22, 2016 stopping, at least temporarily, the nationwide implementation of those changes to the FLSA. As a result of this ruling and uncertainty surrounding a final legal outcome, UIC has decided to delay the previously announced policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance with the new FLSA rules that were scheduled to go into effect December 1, 2016. Employees who were newly classified as salaried non-exempt due to the proposed FLSA revisions will revert back to FLSA exempt status effective November 27, 2016. These changes were completed centrally by UIC HR.

Please note that discussions are ongoing with University Administration, campus HR leadership and University and campus administration. A final determination has not been made on the status of salary increases that employees may have received in order to retain their FLSA exemption. Further communication will be provided as we learn more regarding the injunction and related FLSA decisions.
University Payroll and Benefits will conduct open labs for employees and managers regarding FLSA time entry for the week of November 20th – November 26th on the following dates. Please encourage attendees to register for the lab.
