The 28th Annual UIC Retirement Planning Conference was held at Student Center EastSaturday, April 26. University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Human Resources and University Human Resources co-hosted the free half-day conference for UIC employees considering retirement or planning to retire within the next one to five years.
Assistant Vice President for UIC Human Resources Robert A. Crouch addressed the audience of approximately 250 attendees during his opening remarks. “It can be a challenge to navigate all of the changes in government pension rulings, plan provisions, deadlines and calculations that are all part of the retirement process,” Mr. Crouch said.
In response to these concerns, the UIC Retirement Planning Conference is offered annually each spring to provide information and resources to staff and faculty who are interested in starting to plan for retirement. Though there was a heavy focus on recent Illinois pension reform, the 2014 conference offered presentations addressing the following topics:
Presentations were led by the State Universities Retirement System (SURS); UIC Human Resources; University Payroll and Benefits (UPB); TIAA-CREF; Fidelity Investments; and the UIC Chapter of the State Universities Annuitants Association (UIC SUAA). Representatives from each group were also available at the Vendor Information Fair throughout the day to provide information and answer questions.
